A solid B1 proficiency—especially strong reading skills—along with thorough preparation, is usually enough to pass.
Structure of the Test:
Most questions are in multiple-choice format, but you’ll also need to answer a few open-ended questions in writing. All responses must be written in Hungarian, by hand.
Although the official study materials cover most topics, some questions may require slightly deeper understanding or wider cultural knowledge than what’s provided.

Using electronic devices or dictionaries during the exam is not allowed. Many people feel nervous but say the environment is fair and professional.
Tips from Past Test-Takers:
- Focus on reading the study material actively (not just memorizing).
- Practice writing short answers in Hungarian.
- Be ready for unexpected cultural or historical questions — they are not trick questions but may test reasoning or broader understanding.
